Corner Canyon scores 41 first-half points in 41-17 Region 3 win at American Fork

Corner Canyon put up 41 first-half points — 27 of them in just over six minutes — and beat American Fork 41-17 in a Region 3 football game Thursday, according to the Deseret News 1.

The Chargers' quarterback threw three first-quarter touchdown passes of 17, 16 and 32 yards to the same receiver and ran for a touchdown later in the game, the paper reported 1. A 7-yard rushing touchdown late in the opening quarter helped put the game out of reach early, according to the account, which said the Chargers got contributions in all three phases 1.

Head coach Casey Sutera told the Deseret News he was pleased with how his team started. "I love the way we came out in this game. We were just firing offensively, I loved it. Our quarterback came out and did amazing. He was a little beat up after that Skyridge game," Sutera said 1. "He played really well last week, but to get back in region against a good opponent and play as confident as he did, I was super proud of him." 1

Sutera said the win came at a good time with the playoffs approaching. "It gives us a lot of confidence, and we want to play our best football going in the playoffs," he told the paper. "That's what's so great about our region is you get battle tested, and you play good teams, and then when playoff time comes around, you know you're going to play your best football, which is always the goal." 1

Corner Canyon plays in 6A Region 3 with American Fork, Lehi, Lone Peak and Skyridge, according to the Utah High School Activities Association 2. Corner Canyon High is one of the Canyons School District's high schools 3.
