DRAPER — The Planning Commission approved three development items at its Aug. 27 meeting: a retail building for Wise Flooring on Ikea Way, a home-based barbecue pickup operation on Richins Road and a lot line adjustment in Camden Park, the Draper Herald reported 1.

The commission approved a site plan for a retail building at 41 W. Ikea Way on about 1.08 acres, submitted by Mitch Cordner for Savio Rentals, and granted a deviation from strict compliance for parking, allowing fewer stalls than the city's special district rules normally require 1. The city's public hearing notice, posted Aug. 13, describes the request as the Wise Flooring site plan and "a Deviation From Strict Compliance For Parking" and sets the hearing before the commission at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall 2. Before the hearing, the Draper Herald reported that the building at 41 W. Ikea Way is an 8,226-square-foot retail structure with two leasable spaces, and that the property sits in the CSD-DRC zone, a roughly 35.6-acre district created in 2005 for large-scale retail near the Draper IKEA 3. The Herald reported that individual commissioner votes were not available in the meeting summary it reviewed, and that the relationship between Savio Rentals and Wise Flooring was not detailed in city records 1.

The commission granted Russell Stephenson a conditional use permit for Rusty's Pitmasters Barbecue LLC at 1645 E. Richins Rd. 1. The city's notice describes the request as operating "a cottage business that produces barbecued foods" on the property 4. The Herald reported the business will run as a small-scale, appointment-only pickup service with no walk-in traffic on about 0.64 acres, and that the city posted the hearing notice on Aug. 13 1.

The commission also approved an amended plat covering about 0.62 acres at 11446 S. Camden Road and 11464 S. Camden Road, refining the lot boundaries between the two properties 1.

The meeting was the last for Commissioner Lisa Fowler, who stepped down after eight years of service; the Herald reported that no replacement had been publicly announced at the time 1. On Sept. 1 the City Council approved Resolution #26-41 appointing Laura Fidler as a regular member of the Planning Commission 5.

Commissioners and staff also held a preliminary discussion about how the city handles accessory uses on properties made up of multiple parcels and plan to revisit the topic at a future meeting 1. Residents with questions about the approved items can reach city planner Nick Whittaker at (801) 576-6522, the contact named on both hearing notices 24.
