RIVERTON — The Jordan School District Board of Education approved revisions to Administrative Policy DP344, the vacation schedule for twelve-month personnel, at its Sept. 22 meeting, and heard a Herriman reading campaign announced in public comment 1.
The board met in potential closed, study and general sessions beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the JATC South campus board conference room, 12723 South Park Avenue (2080 West) in Riverton, with patrons able to watch online 2. Audio recordings of both the study session and the general session are posted with the district's summary of the meeting 1.
The general session vote approved revisions to DP344, which the district titles the Vacation Schedule for Twelve-Month Education Support Professionals 13. The policy manual carries a revision date of Sept. 22, 2026 for a policy that took effect Sept. 25, 1979, and states that it applies to full-time twelve-month employees on 242- and 245-day contracts, with vacation accrual set on a schedule beginning at one day after one month of continuous contract service 3. The agenda described the revisions as clarifying to whom the policy applies 2, and listed DP344 for study-session review along with board-level policies GP106, GP107, GP111, GP112 and GP114 2.
The district's posted summary of study-session actions records no action on DP344 there, describing a final vote in the business meeting 4. It records the Teacher and Student Success Act 2027-28 plan framework as information only, with the item going to the Oct. 13 business meeting agenda for potential approval 4. It also records no action from the board-level policy review: GP106 and GP107 are to be combined, with options brought to the next study session, and GP111, GP112 and GP114 are set for final review at the Oct. 13 study session and for potential approval at the business meeting the same day 4.
The agenda listed one bid for decision — replacing classroom furniture at Copper Hills High School, at a stated total awarded expenditure of $361,946.84, funded from TSSA funds and district furniture budgets 2. The summary the district posted does not record an outcome for that item 1, and no minutes of the Sept. 22 meeting were posted as of Oct. 3 5.
In patron comments, Herriman Mayor Lorin Palmer said a city reading campaign called "Herriman Reads" would begin Sept. 28 and run 30 days with 30 books and 30 "My Little Libraries" 1. He said he would go live on Instagram at 7:30 p.m. each of the 30 nights to read a children's story with someone from the community, and that he hoped the campaign would raise awareness of literacy and of the roles parents and the community play in getting students excited about reading 1.
Jordan Education Association president Devionare Howland thanked the board and said the association's executive board represents elementary and secondary schools; she introduced a Mountain Ridge High School teacher who serves on that board 1.
Superintendent Anthony Godfrey thanked Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and her staff for the visit to the district, which he described as a remarkable opportunity for students 1. The general session opened with a presentation on Valley High School, where principal Jacinto Peterson told the board the school has supported students for 51 years 1.
In board comments, president Niki George thanked the district's career and technical education department for the recent Economic Summit, which she said showcased business partnerships giving students job shadowing, apprenticeships and internships, and credited JATC South landscaping students with planting water-wise plants in the Governor's Mansion park strip 1. Communications director Sandy Riesgraf was recognized for coordinating the justice's visit 1. Member Lisa Dean reported on the Salt Lake County Recreation Advisory Board, where she said a new e-bike ordinance and a county bond for recreation facilities were discussed 1. Member Darrell Robinson thanked the superintendent and district for supporting the 9/11 Project in South Jordan 1. Member Bryce Dunford reported that the South Jordan RDA committee presented a list of proposed tax increment projects in the city 1.
In closed session, board members discussed personnel, property, potential litigation, negotiations and security 12.
The board's next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 13, 2026 5.
