DRAPER — Minky Couture is taking over the fourth floor of Minuteman Office Plaza in Draper, a 26,000-square-foot second corporate office for the Ogden-based blanket company. The company announced the lease on Sept. 28 1. The Draper Herald reported it the next day 2.

The announcement came in a Deseret News BrandView post, which the newspaper labels on the page as a paid advertisement written by Minky Couture 1. Neither that account nor the Herald's report disclosed the lease terms or the rent 12.

Shirley Heaps, the company's public relations and communications manager, said the new space is "more centralized to Salt Lake City, which positions us for events, meetings, and recruiting in the area" 1. The company's first corporate office in Ogden continues as before 1.

Brandon Fugal, chairman of Colliers and the broker on the lease, said the I-15 corridor puts Minky at the center of the Wasatch Front with "direct access to the talent, infrastructure and momentum driving Silicon Slopes" 1. The Herald reported Fugal brokered the lease 2. Michael Skalla of LD Bowerman Investments LLC, the company's landlord at the plaza, said Minky is one of the building's newest anchor tenants and that his team worked with the company "to design and begin construction" on the space 1. The Herald reported construction had begun and that no move-in date had been announced 2.

Minky Couture was founded in 2009 by Sandi Hendry, who made the first blanket for her adult daughter during an extended hospital stay and found the fabric the company is named for at a fabric store 1. The company now operates seven retail locations and has more than one million Instagram followers, according to the announcement, with partnerships that include more than 75 colleges and brands such as the Dallas Cowboys, the Boston Red Sox, the NHL and Disney 1. For every full-size blanket sold it donates a mini blanket to a neonatal intensive care unit, distributing about 6,000 a month 1. Hendry said being part of the Silicon Slopes community is "incredibly exciting for Minky Couture" 1. No hiring targets or opening timeline for the Draper office have been released 2.
