South Jordan's Planning Commission has noticed an Oct. 27 hearing on a school's conditional use permit and a code amendment reducing the required distance between monopoles.

SOUTH JORDAN — The South Jordan Planning Commission has noticed an in-person public hearing for Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 1600 W. Towne Center Drive, on two items 14. Utah News reported the notice on Oct. 15 and labelled it a report from an official government or institutional source 1.
The first item is a conditional use permit, file PLCUP202600189, for IEC Education of Utah at 10888 S. 300 W., submitted by Sandi Monsen 1. The second is a city code text amendment, file PLZTA202600194 and Ordinance 2026-26, which Utah News reports the notice titles a "Monopole Distance Requirement Reduction," submitted by Rocky Schutjer of RAGE Development 1.
South Jordan's code chapter 17.112 governs wireless communications facilities. It defines a monopole as any freestanding pole, tower or stealth structure taller than 50 feet used to carry commercial antennas, and §17.112.070 requires "A minimum one (1) mile distance ... between monopoles" 5. The same section caps monopoles at 100 feet in height, limits them to rear yard areas, keeps them at least 100 feet from a street right-of-way and, in a table, sets their separation from a residential property line by height — 245 feet for a pole over 50 feet, rising to 370 feet at 100 feet 5.
A text amendment to that spacing rule would apply across the city rather than to one site. The city had not posted an agenda packet for the Oct. 27 meeting, so no draft ordinance text and no staff report were available 12.
Comment is allowed only in person or in writing. Written comments must reach city planner Greg Schindler at gschindler@sjc.utah.gov by 12 p.m. on Oct. 27, with email attachments under 20 Mb 1. Those are the same terms the city set in the public hearing notice it posted for this body's Oct. 13 meeting 3. Accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act can be requested from the city planner at 801-446-4357 at least 24 hours ahead, and general questions go to the South Jordan City Offices at 801-254-3742 on weekdays 1.
The commission meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month in the City Council Chambers; Oct. 27 is the fourth Tuesday 4. The city's meeting portal listed a Planning Commission meeting for that date at 6:30 p.m. with no agenda or packet attached as of Friday, having posted both for the Oct. 13 meeting 2. The city directs those attending by video conference to its planning commission page on the day of the meeting for instructions 1.
