HERRIMAN — Herriman City has celebrated the grand opening of the newly remodeled Herriman Community Center, reopening one of the community's most historic buildings. 1
The city said the building was originally constructed as military barracks before becoming the Herriman Lions Club in the 1950s, and later served as the city's first City Hall 1.
After residents expressed a desire to preserve the landmark, the city used federal grant funding to modernize the facility while maintaining its historic character, according to the city. The renovation brings updated amenities to the building and preserves portions of the original structure that reflect its long history, the city said.
The Community Center is now open and ready to serve residents again as a gathering place for senior programs, community events and meetings for local organizations, the city said.
The city said that by preserving a piece of Herriman's history while preparing it for the future, it is ensuring the building will continue to bring people together for generations to come.
The city's announcement did not list the center's address, operating hours or a schedule of programs.
