Corner Canyon High School cut the ribbon on a 36,000-square-foot field house that includes an indoor practice field and an expanded weight room, the Draper Herald reported on Oct. 8, citing the Draper Journal 1. With Corner Canyon's and Jordan High's field houses now finished, all five of the Canyons School District's comprehensive high schools have indoor practice space, the Herald reported 1.

The Herald put the field house at $13.5 million and said the building opened in December 2025, part of a larger campus project that also added a security vestibule and upgrades to the baseball, softball and soccer fields 1.

The project's paper trail runs back further than the ceremony. At its March 12, 2024 meeting, the Canyons Board of Education held a public hearing on issuing $50 million to complete improvement projects at Jordan High, Eastmont Middle, Corner Canyon High and Hillcrest High, with new tax revenue and a 15-year repayment plan that held annual interest and principal payments to about $4.6 million 2. The district's summary of that meeting put Corner Canyon's share of the project at $12.9 million and grouped the field house with the security vestibule, a turf baseball infield and softball field, and a drainage system and turf for the soccer fields; Jordan High's $21 million project included a field house of its own 2.

A year later, the board's May 6, 2025 summary listed a field house and new soccer-field turf at Corner Canyon High among the large construction projects in the proposed 2025-26 budget, and described them as the latest in a string of school-improvement projects since voters approved a $250 million bond measure in 2010 3.

The school's own records show the building in use before the ribbon cutting. The Corner Canyon School Community Council's minutes for Jan. 8, 2026, approved Feb. 12, 2026, record the field house as not totally complete, with a ribbon cutting planned for about the next month, and note that the track, lacrosse, soccer and baseball programs had started using it along with physical education classes 4. The Herald places the ceremony itself in September, while the Chargers' football team stood at 3-0 1.

District Business Administrator Leon Wilcox said the outdoor field improvements were completed first because of flooding and safety concerns, and that the new weight facility, paired with the school's existing weight room, lets more students and teams train at the same time 1. Superintendent McKay Robinson said the building serves all students, not just athletes, and is available for physical education classes as well as every athletic team 1.

The ceremony also marked the formal start of the Casey Sutera coaching era. Sutera replaced longtime head coach Eric Kjar, who left in December 2025 to become head coach at Weber State University; the community council's January minutes record a Jan. 12 farewell for Kjar 14. Sutera spent eight years as Corner Canyon's defensive coordinator, helping the Chargers win three 6A state championships, before leading Brighton High for four seasons, where he posted a 35-14 record, won three Region 6 titles and was named 2024 5A Coach of the Year 1. Principal Dina Kohler told the ribbon-cutting crowd it was time to welcome the Sutera era 1. Kjar left behind a 112-10 record over nine seasons, six state championships in 2018-20 and 2023-25, and a Utah-record 48 consecutive wins from 2018 to 2021, according to the Herald's account 1.

The Chargers entered Week 9 ranked No. 3 in the KSL Sports Top 25 with a 6-2 overall record and a 1-1 mark in 6A Region 3, according to MaxPreps, and traveled to No. 7 American Fork on Thursday, Oct. 8, for a 7 p.m. kickoff 1. This paper reported that game as a result the next morning: a 41-17 Corner Canyon win 5.
