DRAPER — Corner Canyon opened the 6A playoffs at its home field Friday with a 35-7 win over Bingham, scoring four touchdowns before halftime 4.
The Chargers, seeded third, are 9-2 and Bingham finished 3-8 4. The first-half touchdowns included a 10-yard pass from Jaxon Pehrson to Beckham Coon and another to Kelen Gold; Pehrson, who threw 23 touchdown passes in the regular season, added two more to reach 25 41. Braxton Sneddon scored both rushing and receiving 4. Bingham's only points came on a 4-yard fumble return by Cooper Johnson 4.
**What comes next**
No. 11 Syracuse beat No. 6 Westlake 35-19 on Friday and travels to Corner Canyon next week 5. The UHSAA bracket lists the quarterfinals for November 6 at home sites, with the semifinals on November 12 and the final on November 20 both at the University of Utah 3. Any semifinal would therefore be played at that neutral site rather than at a higher seed's home field 3.
Syracuse beat Westlake in the same round a year ago, on a field goal as time expired, and did it on the road this time 5.
**How the seed was set**
The 6A field ranks Skyridge first with an RPI of 0.807370 and an 8-1 record, Mountain Ridge second at 0.783619 and 10-0, and Corner Canyon third at 0.704839 and 8-2 3. Skyridge's 37-27 win over the Chargers gave the Falcons the Region 3 title outright at 4-0 and the No. 1 seed 1.
The Chargers are the three-time defending champion: they beat Lone Peak 35-20 in the 2025 6A final for a third straight title 6. This season is a bid for a fourth 4.
**The regular season behind the seed**
Corner Canyon went 5-1 against 6A playoff teams, beating Davis 51-14, Lone Peak 37-14, American Fork 41-17 and Lehi 34-7, and shutting out Cedar Valley 1. Its losses came 38-24 at Liberty of Arizona and 37-27 at Skyridge 1. The Chargers average 41.1 points a game and allow 14.1, both second in 6A behind Mountain Ridge 1.
Pehrson ran for six touchdowns in the regular season and threw 11 interceptions 1. Defensive end Wyatt Warner led the 6A previews with 13 sacks, and the team recorded 34 sacks, 12 interceptions and seven defensive touchdowns 1.
Casey Sutera is in his first season back at Corner Canyon, having served as Eric Kjar's defensive coordinator from 2017 to 2021, a stretch that included three straight state titles, before four seasons as Brighton's head coach that ended with back-to-back 5A semifinal appearances 1. Kjar left to become Weber State's head coach last December 1. The Deseret News schedule page lists Sutera as the Chargers' head coach 2.
**Bingham's season**
Bingham averaged 18.5 points a game, 13th in 6A, and lost 52-7 to Mountain Ridge and 44-0 at Herriman during the regular season 1. Three of the Miners' seven regular-season losses came by a combined five points 1. Corner Canyon leads the all-time series 7-1 and won 45-0 in the teams' last meeting, in August 2025 1.
In the rest of the 6A first round Friday, Herriman beat Weber 55-6, Mountain Ridge beat Cedar Valley 50-6 and Skyridge beat Riverton 45-0 4.
