DRAPER — The Draper City Council adopted Ordinance #1740 on Oct. 6, 2026, amending the text of the Land Use and Development Code relating to signage in the Karl Malone Auto Center Commercial Special District 1. The city's notice of adoption, signed by City Recorder Nicole Smedley and published Oct. 7, states that the complete ordinance is on file at the Draper City Recorder's Office and available online 1. The Ledger reported on Sept. 29 that the council would weigh sign rules in the Karl Malone Auto Center district at its Oct. 6 meeting 5.

The special district covers property at approximately 11601 S. Lone Peak Pkwy 2. Draper City's notice of public hearing, dated Sept. 24, 2026, describes the request as a zoning text amendment regarding signage within the KMAC-CSD and sets the council's hearing for Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Draper City Hall, 1020 E. Pioneer Rd. 2. The notice directs inquiries about the amendment to Todd Draper at 801-576-6335 2.

The Draper Herald reported on Oct. 8 that the amendment was requested by Logan Johnson of Wright Development Group on behalf of Smith Payne Lone Peak, LLC, in connection with a Rivian electric-vehicle dealership planned for roughly 6.16 acres at 11601 S. Lone Peak Pkwy 3. The Herald identifies Todd Draper as the city's planning manager, reports that the amendment first went to the Planning Commission on Sept. 24, and reports that commissioners voted 5-0 to forward a positive recommendation to the council 3. The Herald states that the specific signage changes are not detailed in the city's public notice, and that official minutes and individual vote counts from the Oct. 6 council meeting had not been posted at the time it published 3.

The planning file behind the amendment goes back further. The Herald reported that the commission approved the dealership's site plan and a cross-access deviation at its June 25 meeting, where Johnson told commissioners the project would bring the first Rivian dealership to Utah and Karolina Kaczmarczyk, representing Rivian, said the company was excited to expand into Draper and to better serve its growing customer base 3.

In a separate action the same night, the council adopted Ordinance #1739, the Snow Zoning Map Amendment, rezoning roughly 1.35 acres at 960 E. New Hope Dr. from RA1 to RA2 and cutting the minimum lot size from 40,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet, the Herald reported 3. The Herald stated that staff planner Nick Whittaker prepared the staff report and that the rezone first went to the Planning Commission at a Sept. 10 public hearing 3. Draper's own public notices page lists the adoption notices for both ordinances, posted Oct. 7, along with Ordinance #1738, approving the Exchange 14068 South 145 East development agreement for approximately 2.15 acres of property, and Ordinance #1721, amending the text of titles 6 and 9 of the municipal code related to short-term rentals 4.
