Five South Valley schools make the 6A football bracket; three open the playoffs at home Oct. 30

The UHSAA released the 2026 football brackets Saturday morning, and five South Valley schools are in the 16-team Class 6A field — three of them open the playoffs at home on Oct. 30.

The Utah High School Activities Association released the 2026 state football brackets Saturday, Oct. 17, posting the brackets and final rankings to UHSAA.org at 11 a.m. after a reveal show carried on KSLsports.com at 10 a.m. 7. Five schools in the Ledger's coverage area are in the 16-team Class 6A field, and three of them drew first-round games at home 1.

First-round games in 6A are Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. at the higher seed; the association's football handbook sets Friday at 6 p.m. as the default time and the higher seed's site as the default venue for state tournament games played at home sites, and the bracket states the same rule 16. Quarterfinals are Nov. 6 at home sites. Semifinals are Nov. 12 at Rice-Eccles Stadium, at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and the 6A final is Nov. 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the University of Utah 145.

The 6A draw, for the schools this paper covers:

No. 2 Mountain Ridge, unbeaten at 10-0 with an RPI of 0.783619, hosts No. 15 Cedar Valley, 1-9 1. Mountain Ridge's regular season included a 52-7 win at Bingham on Oct. 9 9.

No. 3 Corner Canyon, 8-2 with an RPI of 0.704839, hosts No. 14 Bingham, 3-7 — a Draper school against a South Jordan school 1. Corner Canyon, which won last season's 6A championship, closed its regular season with a 34-7 win over Lehi on Oct. 14 11. Bingham finished 3-7, having lost 52-7 at home to Mountain Ridge a week earlier 9.

No. 4 Herriman, 8-2 with an RPI of 0.675049, hosts No. 13 Weber, 5-5 1. Weber beat Riverton 28-27 on Oct. 8 in a non-region game; Riverton went for a two-point conversion with 2:36 left instead of the kick that would have tied it, and the try failed 12.

No. 16 Riverton, 2-8 with an RPI of 0.370121, travels to No. 1 Skyridge, 8-1 with an RPI of 0.807370 1. It is the only coverage-area team playing the first round on the road, and it drew the top seed. Skyridge handed Corner Canyon its most recent loss, on Sept. 25 11.

The field is heavily Region 2. All seven Region 2 schools — Herriman, Mountain Ridge, Westlake, Riverton, Copper Hills, Cedar Valley and Bingham — qualified, with Westlake seeded sixth and Copper Hills ninth 81. Layton, ranked 17th at 2-8, is the only 6A school the bracket leaves out 1.

The bracket also separates the two highest-seeded area teams. Mountain Ridge and Corner Canyon sit in the same half of the 6A draw, so a meeting between them could come only in the Nov. 12 semifinals; Herriman and Skyridge are in the other half 1.

In Class 2A, Summit Academy in Bluffdale is the No. 3 seed at 7-3 and hosts No. 6 South Sevier, 3-6 2. Providence Hall in Herriman is No. 7 at 2-8 and travels to No. 2 Delta, 8-2 2. The two area schools met on Oct. 9, and Summit Academy won 58-6 9. The 2A bracket carries nine schools, so No. 8 Emery and No. 9 Judge Memorial play an extra first-round game 2. The 2A first round is Oct. 23, the quarterfinals Oct. 30, the semifinals Nov. 6 at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, and the final Nov. 14 at Southern Utah University 245.

That Herriman stadium is the tournament's small-school site. Zions Bank Stadium hosts the 1A and 2A semifinals on Nov. 6 and the 3A and 8-player semifinals on Nov. 7; those four classifications play their finals Nov. 14 at Southern Utah University 45.

No coverage-area school qualified in Class 5A or 3A 1314. Juan Diego Catholic in Draper finished 27th in the 4A rankings at 1-9 and is outside that 16-team field 3.

The Ledger does not name high school athletes. This account rests on the association's brackets, rankings and scoreboard, which identify schools rather than players 19.
