The Jordan School District Board of Education is filling a midterm vacancy in Voting District 5 by appointment, and applications close at 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 16 1. The appointee will serve the remainder of an unexpired term that runs through Dec. 31, 2028 2.
The vacancy follows a resignation the board recorded at its Oct. 13 meeting. The district's summary of that meeting states that Bryce Dunford, the board's first vice president, "announced that he is resigning from the Board of Education effective November 1, 2026" 3.
Dunford is listed on the district's board page as the Voting District 5 member, with a term shown as 2017-2028 4. The vacancy announcement does not name the departing member and gives no reason for the departure 1.
Jordan's board consists of seven elected officials who represent their communities, the district states 4. Voting District 5 covers parts of Copperton, Herriman, South Jordan and West Jordan, according to the announcement 2. The board page's entry for that seat names Copperton, South Jordan and West Jordan, and does not list Herriman 4.
The district restates the statutory qualifications in its notice: U.S. citizenship; residence in the school board district for at least one year as of the appointment; registration to vote, and primary residence, in that district; and no simultaneous employment by the board 2. Applicants who need their eligibility confirmed are directed to the Salt Lake County Elections Division 2.
The application packet must include the completed application with a signed affidavit, a conflict of interest disclosure under Utah Code 67-16-16, and a signed Statement of Ethical Behavior; a resume and up to three letters of recommendation may be added 5. Applicants must also file Salt Lake County conflict of interest and financial disclosures through the county's EasyVote system by the same deadline 5.
The form asks for civic involvement, the applicant's reason for wanting to serve, and "what concerns, if any, might voters have about you serving on the Board of Education, including, but not limited to, any potential conflicts of interest which might exist currently or in your past" 5.
After filing, the district instructs applicants to have no communication with current board members about the application, other applicants, the process of filling the vacancy "or about being a Board Member"; questions go to Business Administrator John Larsen at 801-567-8148 5. Completed packets go to Larsen at the administration office, 7387 S. Campus View Drive, West Jordan, or by email 2.
Interviews are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23 and/or 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Jordan Academy for Technology and Careers South Campus in Riverton, and the board expects to appoint at its Nov. 24 business meeting, set for 6:30 p.m. 2.
The same campus hosts a separate public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 on four proposed boundary changes: moving airport-area land from Copper Hills High School to West Jordan High School; moving 11 students from Oak Leaf Elementary to Herriman Elementary at Homestead at Butterfield; aligning south-area boundaries with the Mountain View Corridor extension; and redrawing boundaries among Ridge View, Juniper and Blackridge elementary schools and between Fort Herriman and South Hills middle schools 6. That hearing falls before the seat is filled 26.
