HERRIMAN — A new traffic signal serving The Commons at Herriman Towne Center is expected to begin operating Friday, Oct. 2, the city stated in a notice posted Sept. 30 1. The signal will provide controlled access at Dragonfly Lane and Towne Commons Drive and adds a turn lane, creating a new turning option for drivers traveling to and from the development 1.

The city stated that drivers traveling through the area should watch for the new signal, follow posted signs and use caution as motorists become familiar with the new traffic pattern, and that the Oct. 2 opening is currently anticipated and may be adjusted depending on final preparations 1. The notice did not state a time of day for the change 1.

The signal is part of The Commons at Herriman Towne Center, a commercial development on 13400 South just west of Mountain View Corridor 2. Herriman City officials joined representatives of Elevated Property Company on June 27, 2025 to mark the start of construction, an event the city described as a milestone in bringing commercial growth to the city's core 2. The city's account of the project states the site had been slated for commercial use for more than a decade and that plans call for more than 200,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space anchored by a large-format store, with businesses projected to open as early as 2027 2.

The City Council approved the development's master development agreement, an impact fee agreement and a sales tax incentive agreement on Dec. 11, 2024 3. The city said then that the center would sit along the west side of Mountain View Corridor and the north side of 13400 South, and that the developer anticipated the first businesses opening to customers in late 2026 3.

The paper reported on Sept. 28 that Trader Joe's will open its Herriman store on Friday, Oct. 9 at 4918 W. 13400 South, at The Commons at Herriman Towne Center, according to The Salt Lake Tribune 4. The development's own site gives its address as 13314 S Towne Commons Drive and advertises a grand opening of Feb. 12, 2027 5. It lists center hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with restaurant hours varying on Sunday 5.
