DRAPER — A storm the National Weather Service expects to draw an atmospheric river into Utah will bring widespread rain to the Wasatch Front between Sunday, Nov. 1 and Monday morning, with snow levels dropping to around 6,500 to 7,000 feet early Monday, according to the Weather Service's forecast discussion issued at 11:31 a.m. MDT on Thursday, Oct. 29 1.

The discussion puts the likelihood of widespread precipitation of 0.5 to 1 inch at 75% or better in that window, with the Wasatch Front, southwest Utah and the state's mountains likely to see 1.5 to 2 inches and localized areas up to 3 inches 1. It describes accumulating mountain snow of 3 to 6 inches, and 12 to 18 inches at the higher elevations, with snow levels falling from 9,500 feet late Sunday 1.

Before that, remnant moisture from Tropical Storm Vance is expected to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms across Utah on Friday, with heavy rainfall and flash flooding mainly across southwest Utah 1. "Elsewhere, accumulations are expected to be on the lighter side," the discussion states 1.

No watches, warnings or advisories were in effect for Utah when the discussion was issued 1. The Weather Service expects drier conditions to build in on Monday as the system exits, with high pressure through at least the middle of next week 1.

For Halloween itself, the Draper Herald reported that showers on Saturday, Oct. 31 are expected to be isolated, with temperatures during trick-or-treating hours in the upper 40s to mid 50s, and that the Wasatch Front falls under a marginal risk of flash flooding — level 1 of 4 — for Sunday 2. Current watches and warnings are posted at weather.gov/slc 12.
