The week ahead in Riverton: two council hearings, a planning hearing, and the Halloween Bash on Monday

RIVERTON — The Riverton City Council meets Tuesday, Oct. 20 with two public hearings on the land-use code, and the Planning Commission meets Thursday, Oct. 22 with three items of its own. The city's Halloween Bash is Monday, Oct. 19, and the Law Enforcement Service Area Board meets at 7:30 p.m. on the night of the council meeting 1 2 3 4.

The council's work session begins at 4:30 p.m., the Mayor and Council informal meeting at 6:15 p.m., and the council meeting at 7 p.m. at 12830 South Redwood Road; the meeting is hybrid, with audio and video broadcast through the city's meetings link 1. The two hearings are Ordinance No. 26-21, amending Section 18.90, the Table of Commercial Uses, and Ordinance No. 26-19, amending code sections 18.150.040, .090 and .120 on window signage. Both are proposed by the city 1. This paper reported the agenda on Oct. 16, including Resolution No. 26-51 with American Ramp Company for $18,000 in conceptual skate park designs for Centennial Park and Main Park, and Resolution No. 26-50, a purchase order contract with Asterra for satellite water leak detection 5.

At 7:30 p.m., after the council meeting, the Riverton Law Enforcement Service Area Board takes up approval of its June 16, 2026 minutes and a long range plan for police operations presented by Nick Geer, the city's administrative services director 3.

The Planning Commission's public hearing Thursday begins at 6:30 p.m. in the same building. It carries three items: "Burger King Remodel," PLZ-26-8029, an application to amend an existing commercial site plan at 3813 West 13400 South, filed by Brian Russell; "Snuggle Bug Daycare," PLZ-26-2050, a conditional use for a home occupation for an in-home daycare at 3568 West New Private Drive, filed by Kylie Kennedy; and "Master Transportation Plan," PLZ-26-5009, the city's own proposal to change the Transportation Plan Element of the General Plan 2.

The commission's Oct. 22 notice lists no fencing amendment, though the city's fall docket has carried one: this paper reported on Oct. 16 that a Title 18 fencing amendment numbered PLZ-26-5010 was set for the Oct. 22 meeting 5. The notice posted for that meeting lists the three items above and no fourth 2.

The Halloween Bash runs 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19 at Riverton City Park, 12600 S 1452 W. The city lists it as free, with candy, games and activities for all ages, a "Scare Rodeo" spook alley the city says is aimed at older children, and a themed photo station; families are encouraged to come in costume 4. The city's October calendar data also carries the date as Oct. 19 6. The council's next meetings, as listed on the Oct. 20 agenda, are Nov. 17, Dec. 1 and Dec. 15, 2026 and Jan. 5, 2027, each a 5 p.m. work session and a 7 p.m. council meeting 1.
